Multi Purpose Taxi Driver Training Course
In 1981 the first 3 multi-purpose taxis (MPT) were introduced in WA.
Since that time numerous initiatives have occured that have attempted to meet the ever increasing demand on the Taxi industry for its services for persons with disabilities. At present there are approximately 90 specially fitted and approved MPT vehicles which are capable of transporting disabled persons with various mobility aides. These include motorised wheelchairs, wheelchair scooters, standard wheelchairs and walking frames.
To become an MPT driver an individual must already possess a current WA Taxi Driver license. The individual must then complete a three stage process to become an approved MPT driver.
